Merman Beach Curls Tutorial

step 1

Get a Good Haircut

Start with a good haircut. This style requires some length on the top and back. Keep your sideburns trimmed or faded around the temples. Here's a haircut tutorial to show your barber.

STEP 2

Prep Your Hair

If you already have naturally curly or wavy hair, this tutorial works for you as well. It will accentuate and define your existing curls. Begin with clean, washed hair. Use a gentle daily shampoo and conditioner. The Merman Hair Boosting Shampoo and Conditioner is gentle enough for daily use and preps your hair for volume and curl. Tidy up your look with a shave, and prep your skin with Merman’s Everything Sea Spray.

STEP 3

Dry Your Hair

After showering, dry off your hair. You can either air dry, towel dry, or use a diffused blow dryer. Apply a little Everything Sea Spray before blow-drying for extra volume and fluff. Don’t overdo it, your hair does not need to be bone-dry. Keeping it slightly damp can help with the next steps.

STEP 4

Apply Curling Sea Clay

Take a dime-sized scoop of Curling Sea Clay. Work it into a very thin paste on your fingers before applying it to your hair. If your hair feels too dry, add a little Everything Sea Spray. Keep scrunching your hair. Run your hands through the top and back to create volume. Your hair should start to look fluffy and volumized.

STEP 5

Use Everything Sea Spray

Spray the product all over your hair using three to five pumps. Keep scrunching as you go. The spray helps activate the clay, and your curls will start to define and accentuate naturally.

STEP 6

Finger Curling (Optional)

You can stop styling at any point when your hair looks the way you want, or continue to add and alternate more product. Customize your curls by pinching and twisting sections into defined curls, or tousle your hair for a messier, fluffy look.
